Great discussion! I, too, get disappointed when not much discussion gets generated from the new Avatar content. I know not everyone in the fandom likes the comics, so there’s a bit of a drop-off there, but I’m often surprised at how little the arcs get analyzed in general on Reddit or Tumblr.

I don’t mind so much the waiting time in between comics (I’m always just so thrilled we’re getting new content at all), but of course would love if there were more comics released throughout the year. I imagine Mike and Bryan being heavily involved in the story and art of the comics while also working on other projects perhaps adds to how long it takes to make these comics, so I wouldn’t trade up their involvement to produce them faster.

You make a good point about what kind of stories would get fans excited such as Azula or Kuvira. I think a time skip could be quite helpful to the Avatar comics if done right. I feel like a Naruto-style (or even Korra-style) time jump would work best where the Gaang have to go off separately to do important things or training, and then return to each other with a new arc where we get to catch up with how their lives have evolved. Older character designs, and flashbacks to the in-between period, etc. I think that would add more intrigue. I know part of what’s nice about the comics is that you don’t have to tell long, epic stories like in the show, but I also think that would really invest people again. If the arcs have to be in three part series perhaps try to end some arcs on cliffhangers in order to tell a longer, more important story.

As for Korra, I’d be interested to see a story where Lin and Suyin find their fathers. I don’t think Lin would actively seek out her father because she’s stubborn and feels she doesn’t need to, but Su could probably persuade her for whatever reason. (They then narrow down the possible suspects in a musical extravaganza accompanied by the stylings of ABBA 😛 ). Only issue here is that it might be tricky to heavily involve Korra and Team Avatar.
