That’s a lot of animes in a row.

I just prefer animation to live action shows by a large margin and find that Anime is much more interesting to discuss than most western animation.

Especially with the review format we do, most western animations tend to not showcase well just based on the first 2 episodes. Steven Universe and Gravity Falls being the main examples. Then stuff like TMNT and Star Wars Rebels not really being overly representative of what that show is usually. With the opening, mid season finale and finale really being the only time stuff happens of note.

And given that we do have some rules for picking in place where we try to pick stuff that at least to some extent may appeal to Avatar fans, you can see why we stay away from shows that have no plot and so on.

So Anime tends to get the focus on this podcast as they in general tend to present something interesting with characters/concept and plot and not many have the current western trend of being very episodic overall. The bonus of most being adapted from weekly manga.

Well not an official suggestion, but you said shows that might appeal to Avatar fans, one that comes to mind is American Dragon: Jake Long, the first episode is good representation of the quality of the show and the story. Have you ever thought about that one?

    Hey, I remember Jake Long.

The first season had the same problem as Season 1 of Gravity Falls – besides the season finale there was not much plot progression. Okay, the writers DID set up a few things, but outside the finale there was no payoff for those things. That only came in Season 2.

And in both shows Season 2 felt like two seasons crammed together with two finales.

Perhaps it is time for another listener suggestion. Someone should suggest a western cartoon.

Also maybe instead of the first 2 episodes (or 4 11-minute ones), the listener could suggest watching 4 particular episodes that showcase what the series has to offer the best (like Jailbreak in SU).

But hey, it DID work with Wakfu, did it not? So it’s not impossible. Such cartoons do exist, they’re just a little harder to find.

Of course I understand your problems with western animations. Shows like Avatar, Voltron or Wakfu are as scarce as hen’s teeth.

Some of them like to faff around with random junk (like Adventure Time and Steven Universe), some of them have VERY formulaic first seasons (like Code Lyoko and Miraculous Ladybug) and a large chunk of them doesn’t even care about overarching storylines.

I am excited about Eureka Seven, but it does start out very slow. Just be warned.
