The Last Airbender 2 Movie (Earth): News, Videos, and Information

Unfortunate news The Last Airbender 2 is very much on the back burner, the Avatar The Last Airbender Movie received a boat-load of criticism so chances of the sequel are slim, a reboot of an Avatar The Last Airbender movie is more likely. As always as soon as we hear any news about The Last Airbender 2 Movie we will let you all know!

You may have heard about M Night Shyamalans recent movie “Devil” which he was already planning on producing shortly after The Last Airbender. Well word has just arrived that he will be directing a new film called ‘One Thousand A.E.’ which makes it appear that the second Avatar: The Last Airbender Movie is way on the back-burner.

This may be some good news for the majority of fans who were disappointed in The first Last Airbender movie as this is one of the rare films M Night is directing but not writing (which will hopefully mean he will direct but not write The Last Airbender 2). Many fans hope M Night never touches The Last Airbender ever again, but I think he still should have a place in the movie series (being the one who had the idea to start it), albeit he needs a lot of help, and with some major renovations to the movies style and scripting I think it will be something worthwhile. If you want to find out more about what we thought of the first Last Airbender movie then Read the full review of The Last Airbender.

Despite mainly negative reactions from fans of the show and movie goers alike the movie has had solid financial success, the movie has been quite profitable in theaters making well over $300 million, the DVD and Blu-Ray sales should help increase that number as well, making the likelihood of a second Airbender movie increase, although it’s still up in the air whether or not it will ever be made.

Maybe this latest movie of M Night will not have a twist ending, now that would be a twist wouldn’t it :)

What do you think?

Me too. But I hope he gets a clue from the fans and makes it into the movie it should have been. He can scratch out what he did with the first one with the whole stupid peace thing. I don’t care. He just needs to stick with the series and not do something “new”. Because his “new” was junk. And someone else needs to write it besides him. Because he did a terrible job. XP

I agree with both of you. he should finish the series, he has the vision but he didnt get the point of series at all! Effects are nice but its the message that he missed. The character inter-actions and development over the whole animated series is fantastic… dare i say perfect!!!!!
and that is what the second and third movie must have… Growth! Kids now adays need to see the transformations that all the characters have through out the series and the first movie missed that completly. The story is about Aangs adjustment to tragedy and over coming an impossible task in the most impossible manner without losing himself in the process. Zuko’s story is of the same caliber and depth with an opposite ending finding out who HE is. In closing the movies should focus on the insights of the support characters Iroh, Sokka’s master, Aang’s first fire bending teacher and so on

What do u think was the message Shyamalans missed ? I believe he is making the Avatar a Buddha-like figure. The Avatar was not supposed to hurt others because it was the way of compassion. That’s what the old uncle was trying to instill into Zuko. No?

Shyamalan’s movie was a wonderful family movie. Having 8 year old twins, this was the perfect movie encapturing the interest of my son, who takes tai-kwon-doe, and daughter, who takes ballet, there simply was a lot to enjoy with this movie. My family appreciated the story-line, music, it’s special effects, specks of humor, costums, relationships/friendships, honor, and love interest. The music espcailly, even with it’s simplistic nature, it was moving.

Noah Ringer was a wonderful actor and athlete. I was pleased with his performance. He has a beautiful screen-face, young athlete’s body, gentle voice/disposition, and an endearing attitude on film while moving so fluidly and with grace. He was super to watch! Hats off to this new actor! It would be terrific to see him on film again to see what he can do.

To those of you who were disappointed with the movie, I am not. I don’t compare this to the old kung-fu movies, this was a generous and respectfull change to the genre.

I hope they decide to make the sequel to Avatar: The Last Airbender!
    Respectfully,
    Mom

You obviously have never seen the cartoon series. Of course to you, you might think its fine and dandy and all because the performances and effects. But if you seen the series you ll seethat shymalayn guy wanted to compress the whole series into a one hour movie and failed to even relate to the storyline of the series. If you have actually seen the series then u will know what im talking about. The cast was horrible. Zuko was just a big lol. Sokka was suppose to be funny but looked rdiculously serious. Katara and sokka shoulldve been played by some type of native indian decent. Aang was ok but shouldve been more spontaneous in the movie. I give this movie a big thumbs down. But noooo the graphics and 3D was soooo great

I want to see what you can come up with and also see your skills grow and I want to also see the characters have a chance to also grow and become more solid and strong in their roles, don’t leave it too long or as Airspeed Prime says – Noah Ringer will be 6ft and you’d have to find a new kid to play the role… though you’ve plotted it for 3 years for Sozin’s comet to return so I guess that gives the GAang time to grow physically somewhat… :)

MNS directed 2 “good” movies (The 6th Sense and Unbreakable).

(Not bragging) As someone who has writing degrees and has studied cinematography in college, his movies (especially TLA) were NOT good. I’m not saying that he should have followed all the conventions of ATLA, but he needed to follow the basic writing/movie making conventions. It could have been very different, but still very good, like Transformers vs Transformers G1.

Transformers is a not so well received movie even comparing it to G1, which even among the hardcore Transformers fandom is only loved due to nostalgia. We think we have it bad with MNS who is actually a really big fan of Avatar, imagine we got Michael “The Explosion” Bay, things would be much worse, mainly due to the way he communicates with fans.

The biggest problem the Transformers movies have is that they never make the Transformers characters, the movies focus is on Sam when it is called Transformers.
All the best transformers stories focus on mainly Transformers.

For me Transformers Vs G1 is theperfect comparison for ATLA Vs TLA, they are two separate continuities of Transformers with the same basic plot. No transformers fans complain about the movies because hound does not give Spike a backrub, yet I have seen countless Avatar fans (not on this site) say “but x happened in the show”.
I don’t think it is because Transformers has had many experiences with continuities before and we have not, Chibi-Verse anyone !

That is why none of my complaints about the movie are about stuff that was in the show and not here.

My complaints are the script, more specifically certain scene choices and some really bad dialogue. That and whoever decided to make the movie only 90 minutes, 20 minu

The movie does not have to be just like the anime/cartoon, but if it’s missing the basic conventions (like appropriate dialogue, etc.), then it fails at being the best version of what it should be.

Yea , dosent need to be exactly like the cartoon but hey it should resimble the cartoon, good thing they didn’t name it avitar. They should start over and name it avitar: the last air bender the way it should be and mabe the maker of lord of the rings or Harry potter can remake the movie it would break box office records!

They can’t leave it too long as the actors will age and it will become to much of a difference. It takes a good 2 years to create the film, especially if it’s going to continue with awesome CGI and if they decide to film in 3D this time, so 2012 would still be way too ambitious for release unless they begin straight after Christmas/New Year break… who knows, they may already be working on the scenery stages, anyone from philly here? Could you shoot out to the lot, where they did alot of the filming and see if there’s any action happening there?….. oooo do it secret squirrel type though! we want the news here first :) I’ll send out scouts to see if anyones scoping around NZ,lol… We had the Earth Nation forest scene’s filmed here, and the longshot scene of the Firelord’s Palace when Zhou was outside with Ozai…. how do I know, well the Pukeo bird flying in the scene as it cuts towards the palace and the tree’s within the scenes are indigenous to NZ… I didn’t know about them filming here at the time, but have been working on getting more industry ties so I can hear asap if there is anything new happening :) At the mo we’re having a problem with keeping The Hobbit here, even though work is well advanced in the Hobbitville in Matamata…. fingers crossed we don’t lose it….

Now hoping that MNS see’s it the best place to come and shoot Book 2 here, we’re a friendly bunch down here and lots of films and TV shows get filmed here now…. and well being middle Earth, it just seems right, and he did use some of our stunning landscapes as backdrops in Book 1 :) Hell he is most welcome to come and film Ember Island scenes here, where I live… our beach is soooo beautiful, long white sand and plenty of space to film the volley ball scene :) I’ll be more than happy to put up the cast at my house :) though don’t think we have enough room for them all, but sure we can organize something surely lol….. i dont want m night to direct it, the thing that annoyed me most is the fact that the fire benders had to carry around fire to manipulate it. like really? thats what made the firebenders so powerful was the ability to create it themselves, and if he grows some sense and changes it it will be to confusing because people will be like what? how did this happen i thought they needed fire with em? also back in season 3, thinkin down the road, if he does direct it he needs to put the fire warriors or w/e they r called and instead of them learning “peaceful fire” the dragons need to teach em how to make their own fire. just sayin, reply if u want lol

    Hey nnick,

Would be interesting to see if they do introduce the Sun Warriors and the lessons from the Dragons on true firebending – it is a huge part of the final story, however we’ve seen MNS miss out King Bumi and the divine Kyoshi Warriors in book one of the movie… though he does say that they make a huge entrance in book 2… if that happens… which I really do hope! I like it when people complete things, rather than leaving them unfinished… I think with all the outpouring MNS got from Book 1 of the movie, I feel he’s got a lot to learn from and would like to see him accomplish this….

As far as firebenders needing to have a source of fire to bend from…. MNS said he wanted to put everyone on an even field per say with the firebenders having to carry fire around to bend from just as the water benders needed to carry or have sources of water to bend from… it did give the storyline a twist, just a different view – at the end of the movie, Oazi states that in 3 years time Sozin’s comet will return, giving all fire benders the ability to bend directly from their chi, that is when they will win the war and show the world their true power and ability to rule the world… so he has wrapped up that thread within the storyline… is it a hint that we won’t get to see the Sun Warriors and the beautiful Ran and Shao? I really hope not, as Zuko & Aang really get to learn how to use their firebending for healing and peace rather than just destruction and causing pain…. Only time will tell…. :)

Yeah Donna is right the fact that firebenders need fire around to bend adds an interesting twist also master firebenders can bend fire from their own sources so it’s really not that big a change from the source.

Maybe if they just did it in animation it would be better. You know it is exactly like the episodes except it would be just one long, long, long movie LOL. Their would be a Book 1, a Book 2 and a Book 3. If it would be sucessful, they could make more movies with just different plots.

Buy the dvd so paramount will realize that the fans still want to see the rest of the trilogy. As long as shymalan gets some help from the creators of avatar for the second and third movies because I’m sure they would be glad to help shynalan write a better script that the fans will enjoy more. I’m also curious to see azula and whether or not she will have blue fire because in the movie she won’t be able to bend her own fire (probably). That was one of my favorite things about azula from the show.

yea anyone have any thoughts about azula and her blue flames in the next movie? Which I really hope they mae another movie and they should allow MNS to stay on as director but get some help because a little help from a stranger can be a great blessing (iroh). I liked the last airbender and as far as the character growth it would be really hard to fit a lot of character growth in the movie because they don’t have the time like the show did, they can’t put filler scenes in the movie so the audience can watch the characters grow as a person, I do agree there definately needs to be more parts to show character growthpp but the movie doesn’t have ten hours like the show did for each book (just an average).

Why would ANYone want him to continue the movie series? Even if by some miracle any of the sequels turn out to be fantastic, it’s too late, the first film is such absolute garbage that the entire series will be tainted and ruined by the opening of the story. Scrap the movies and just enjoy the real Avatar, especially since the new series with Avatar Korra is coming soon.

Because Some people actually liked the Movie (I really did), The movie had NO negative effect on the show, everyone knows that the Show is better, the movie has only brought more fans into the Fandom.
You have to take into account that The movie is a different continuity that is just BASED on the series, and that any director was going to have trouble adapting Book 1 into a film, Since Book 1 is a new place every episode(pretty ,much).
Has Avatar not thought you to keep your mind open to the possibilities.

I would be very happy never to see another M.Night movie ever again. I certainly dont want him anywhere near ATLA or ATLK EVER! They should put their resources and money behind making spin off movies of the ideas we’ve already thought of and would like to see. Movies like: Iroh’s journey to the spirit world, Avatar history (pick any Avatar), the origin’s of the Avatar, Airbender history, Southern Watertribe history, etc. The list could go on and on. Never should they do any more live action (it doesn’t do the animation or show justice) and never, I mean NEVER should M.Night Shamylan ever touch this again.

As much as I love Avatar and as much as I respect all of your opinions ( I didn’t read all the comments ), I got to say: SCREW M. Night Shyamalan ! It was the best news I had today, that he wouldnt make Avatar 2 all too soon.
    The show= Awesome
His movie= The biggest piece of crap I’ve seen in a long long time!

Yes, he had the idea of making that movie but still if you have an awesome idea, and you do poorly, it’s your own fault. It is! And yes he could do Avatar 2 and change oh so many things he did wrong in the first movie, but anybody else could do that, as well. If you have an idea about something you don’t know much about (he had apparently not a darn clue) then you should take even more time and consideration to actually listen to people who know how it should be and what the fans want!
All I’m saying is that I hope he wont do Avatar 2 and that they take someone else who learned from his mistakes or just turn Avatar 2 into a cartoon.
    Thank you for reading

p.s. Somehow the actors didn’t convince me…some fault of the bad movie lies also with them. Some.

I would hope that they would start from scratch. Completely. There is nothing I can say that hasn’t already been said. The story, the acting, the race issues. I’m actually glad that Shyamalan seems to be pulling away from it. It shows that he really didn’t take the property seriously in the first place. If no one in hollywood is going to take the live action version seriously, then scrap it. If you want a feature length film, go animated. Do a full 2D animated movie with the same writers and directors from the tv series.

I agree, but waiting 5-6 years for someone to finally bring this work of art to the big screen will be torture. I almost wish Hollywood never touched it. Below is the dialog I wish the studios would have had with M. Night:

    M. Night: “I have a great idea. Let’s make a movie based on the Avatar cartoon show!”

Studio Exec: “That is a wonderful idea! Thank you for that, we will get on it right away!”

    M. Night: “And I want to write, produce, and direct the movie. I’ve never done this kind of movie before, so it will be a new experience for me.”

Studio Exec: “…..uh, um, hmmm. Well M. Night, I liked 6th Sense and everything after that has been……well, you know. I want to stay true to the art and vision of the show. So we are going to hire the writers, the director, and the producers of Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon to make this movie. They made that masterpiece for only $17million. Imagine if we give them a $200million budget to make Avatar The Last Airbender. It may be the greatest martial arts/fantasy movie ever made!”

Anybody can see this movie was just awful! It didn’t get worst movie for nothing! The acting was terrible, and they cast the wrong people! The only people I really minded was Katara and Sokka, cause they are suppose to be inuit not white. I am not saying he is racist but i dont think he made the right decision on that part. I wish he just got a world map and the avatar map and put contents where the might be in the avatar world. Like i dont know Anartictica with the southern water tribe. It was kinda lame how it took Aang like 3 moves to actually airbend. There were just a lot of mistakes in the movie! I wish for the future they remake the movie and start all over!! But that probably wont happen so if thy do plan on making another movie get a better screenwriter and director! But for me I beg they dont make another one!

You might think I think a lot of myself (but I don’t) when I say this:

But let ME do the film right.

I’ve only recently finished watching the series and I love it.
I definitely have the right idea on how to translate it to live-action.
The key is obviously to leave the original material as intact as possible.
I know all about how cheesy and what not these movies become.
It’s being so forcefully made into a movie, so “modern” and “blockbustery” and… I can’t put it into words.

I haven’t even seen the movie and I do not want to.
Because I read everywhere that it’s not good, and I don’t want it to alter my idea of what it would be like as a live-action movie.

I would love to make it and show it, because I have the right idea about it.
And I just know it would be appreciated.
The way it should look, the way the story should go, the music, about anything.
All I know is it would be a gigantic project.
Inside I’m really excited about it and I know it would be great.
But it’s not my job or profession, so I’m sad to think it’s not possible.
    Maybe in some time…
I’d be happy to work on it, so I’m free anyway.

Ok so you have not even see the movie and you are confident you can make a better movie.

Your idea seems to be a live action show and not a live action movie, to make 20 episodes of 23 minutes into a movie things need to be changed, and especially with the format of Book 1 of the show there is no way anyone is going to make a perfect movie version that is not just a straight up carbon copy live action show.
The movie was made to be a summer blockbuster, which it was and would have done even better if it had any support from fans.

I don’t see how you can comment on making a better movie when you have not even see TLA.
    TLA got the following correct
    -Costumes
    -Sets/backgrounds
    -CG animation, bending effects
    -music
-Actors, people will say it was racist all they want, but the actors did a good job with the not great script they had to go off

I would recommend watching the movie, but don’t even bother if you just plan to tear it apart, go in with an open mind knowing it is going to be different. Just having a positive attitude helps :)

What I find funny is that even though the movie was criticized almost unanimously (save from airspeed and a few others), the movie net a substantial profit, and also sold a large sum of DVD’s, toys, games, etc.

I’m 99% sure they well make the sequel, because they know that even a flop would do well in box office, it’s just the matter of who would direct it. I didn’t particularly like M. Night’s rendition, but he definitely tried, and it wasn’t completely awful.. (the pronunciations really hit a nerve though LOL).

And it’s no easy job either: to convert 20epi x 23min = 460 minutes of a cartoon into a 90-120 minute movie is no easy job, especially when the show is revered for its lack of filler.

I feel they should have taken the Harry Potter route, and split Book One into two movies. Episodes 1-18 for movie one. And then the two-part finale for movie two, made almost carbon copy-style, because we could all admit Book 1/2/3′s finales are directed to be VERY cinematic, and I can easily picture them all as a Live Action when I watch them.

With Book One already out, this cannot happen, but I hope they consider this for Book two. It would allow them time to fit in character development, something M. Night’s movie clearly lacked, and tell the Avatar’s story the way it should be.

The first Airbender was Very Good. I loved it! You MUST do a second movie, and third ! Viewer interest will accelerate Mr. Shyamalan. The first movie’s special effects were excellent. You can’t deny it.
Airbender Noah Ringer made exquisite fighting moves, and stances, but if you must, you can always get a different actor for each movie if that’s your worry.
It was done with the Batman movies and it worked just fine. You can make millions of dollars! I AM the public ! Please do it.

The problem is not with the race of which plays any one tribe. To have nothing but Asians Ex.Chinese, Japanese, Taiwanese, Koreans and…. to be filmed in this movie would cost more then it would be worth to produce the movie in the first place. Lets say for instance that someone is arguing, “The original story is Japanese therefore only Japanese should be filmed in the movie.” Well the problem with that is all the characters with say at least five lines would be recognized as a story line Character. How many story line characters are involved in this one movie? There are a grip of them. How many bilingual Japanese actors and actresses do we have here in the states? There are more then you can count on two hands but not much more. That means to fill the rest of the characters they would have to do one of two things import the actors and actresses and spend a butt load of money and time to teach them how to speak English or pay a crap load of nobody actors and actresses to play the part spending loads of time to teach them how to act. If you take this into consideration you might understand M. Night’s decisions to use Indians to play as one of the tribes.

And just to set you straight Indians are also Asian they just have a darker shade to them cause of the dry and hot environment they live in.

Okay I know I am commenting on this movie a little late but it is never too late to say anything on matters such as this.

There are always going to be the fans of the Anime series that aren’t going to agree completely with the movies that have or are going to be made after the anime series. The thing is there is not enough time to cover everything in one movie even if it is split into 3 movies. Some of the story line from the anime is going to be strategically left out to fit into a 1.5-3 hour time window. something to keep in mind before you say it didn’t have the whole story line therefore I didn’t like the movie. I myself think M. Night did a good job in sorting out important parts of the story line to condense into a movie. Keeping up with the same quality of visual effect in other movies to keep it consistent with the first movie may have a deeper effect then M. Night’s pockets or more so then he is comfortable budgeting out.

i then went back and watched the movie again, and only then could i see the flaws in the movie, the casting is horrible! I dony want to sound racist but I couldnt stand zuko being that foreign! As well as ozai! But its what I expect from nick, all their movies are like that, and whats up with them showing ozai straight away? In the series thy milked not showing him for ages which really built up the character for me!
But regardless of of thr movies flaws it was still so awesome to see the series alive again, as the 4 books alone were nowhere near enough for me! Lets hope legend of kora will be as good!

I wouldn’t mind a sequel but definitely not from M Night. To be honest I think it would be best if Nickelodeon started the whole film series over because the first movie was done so badly. I didn’t like the writing or the acting or the casting choices. Avatar is one of the best shows ever made but every think that made the show great like the comedy was missing from the film.
So maybe someone else can finish what he started…

I had only seen one or two episodes before I saw the movie, and I enjoyed the movie, enough to get me to watch the show. I’m 30; I probably wouldn’t have been tempted to watch the series had I not seen the movie simply because it is a cartoon.

One thing to keep in mind when judging any movie based on a book or a TV series is that the movie is going to be shorter. There will be changes and there will be things that are left behind. When you watch the show or read the book first, you already have set expectations, and if a character is not as you imagine or if they sound different than the original, it is very hard to get past. I know this from experience. Even Jurassic Park initially dissapointed me, because I read the book before. Now, having watched it many times since the first, I love that movie.

M Night is actually a fan of the Avatar series, and they actualy shot almost the entire first season in live action. His interpertation of the show was enough to get me to watch the cartoon, so for that I have to be thankful. It has it’s flaws, yes, but when we fall in love with the source material, it can turn us into a very harsh critic.

I believe that “The Last Airbender” was disappointing at first, but after watching it over and over again on DVD I can see how it would be very good to anyone who had never seen the original cartoon series, “Avatar: The Last Airbender.” M. Night even admitted that the first movie wasn’t that good. It has been reported that when he showed his original draft of the movie to the original creators for advice, that they explained that the movie would be “like 10 hours long.” Lets do a little math. Each “Avatar: The Last Airbender” Season had 26, 30 minute episodes. That is 13 hours a season. So if the movie was 10 hours, you might as well just re-create the entire season as a season.

    M. Night also said that he cut out a lot of amazing Kyoshi Warrior scenes. The reason he said is because they took too much attention away from Aang and his introduction and development as the the avatar. He also wanted to save the Kyoshi Warriors for the second movie. He purposely made the first movie more “suckish” than he wanted because he was trying to introduce the story. He figured that the first movie would still do well and then he could add in a better story line for the rest of the trilogy. He already had drafted a second movie, which he claims is more darker and has a better plot. He’s going to make Azula the main antagonis (sorry for my misspelling) as in the original cartoon series. I just hope they will let him. He intended for the trilogy to do well after the second movie, but with all the criticism, they may not let him do it.

As for all the racial issues I hear people complaining about. M. Night explains the reason for making Katara and Soka “white.” He says the reason is because he saw Nicola Peltz act once before and he needed to have her in his movie (and not as a background or minor character, but as a main character). He also wanted more uniformed races for each of the nations to model (sadly) how things work in real life (even though segregation is outlawed, people still self-segregate; and most people think of asians as “asian”, europeans as “white”, and africans as “black.”). He tried to make the water tribes “white”, the air nomads “white”, the fire nation “asian”, and the earth kingdoms “hispanic and asian”. I don’t think that it ruins the movie or shows racism. Who knows maybe he will have the nations mix races, the nations were mixed in the original cartoon.

I hope he finishes the trilogy; besides, the movie will probally just be remade in 10 or 20 years regardless if he finishes the trilogy or not. A lot of movies have been remade, like the “Karate Kid”, “Race to Witch Mountain”, etc… I’m also very excited for the next segment ofthe “Avatar: The Last Airbender” Universe, “The Last Airbender: The Legned of Korra.” I know the creators didn’t want to make anymore and I would be okay about it, but I’m still excited about “The Legend of Korra.”

Is this comment a PR plant?

He blew it sooooo bad and really doesn’t have the skill required to do an action adventure comedy in the first place. It’s not his thing.

No more chances. These points you make are baseless when you consider how terrible everything was done. Humorless Sokka? Aang Devoid of Playfulness (and mispronounced)? I mean the only Uncle Iro was able to pull of an acting job despite the director and script. Clearly this all falls on the director, who had script gold and botched it bad. Why? Because he saw a pile of money and churned out a low quality tv movie.

What’s with this PR sell for the guy who is clearly not fit to direct another avatar?

If he had one single power script in his repertoire in the past ten years maybe I’d give another chance. He’s never done a good action adventure, much less comedy.

If M. Night wants to do another Avatar then he needs to prove himself on another hit first. Until then Ang Lee clearly has the skill and contacts to make it happen and do the original justice.

One of the few non hating comments about the movie and you feel the need to complain about it.

People like something you do not, I think that is fair.

Not to mention that at least his post tried to be objective and have a more neutral view on the movie, while you just mention the bad points.

Not that I disagree with everything you said, I agree with a lot of them, I can just see positives from the movie.

I just do not see the point of your post, do you want the guy to join you in being negative about the movie ?
Seems an odd reason to post, especially when there is so much positives in the fandom at the moment.

I have no problem with you disagreeing with points, but complaining about his whole post which was extremely well thought out is just not helpful to the discussion.

Again nothing wrong with having a different opinion, but calling it a PR Plant is just disrespectful to the poster and his opinion.

I would really love to see The Last Airbender 2. Yes, there were a lot of flaws in the Last Airbender and I was one of the people who hated it at first, but I’ve rewatched it multiple times and come to realize that even though it wasn’t how the fans wanted it, it was an okay movie. I really want to see how someone would put it into a movie form. Maybe M. Night and the writers will learn their mistakes and collab with Mike and Brian, or even talk with the fans. Who knows? However, I think we should at least give the movie a chance.

Come on! I love the cartoon series and I LOVED Shyamalans THE MOVIE! I really dont understand why so many people hate this movie. I tell you what, I think the MOVIE is EVEN BETTER then the cartoon! I respect how Konietzko, DiMartino and Shyamalan re-wrote the story. Actually I think its the best adaption of the cartoon series! Look what others have done to Dragon Ball Z!!! They’ve changed EVERYTHING. In Last Airbender they just rearranged it a bit to make it shorter (otherwise it would be 7 hours long) and to fit it to more to adult audience! And the final scene? I loved it in the MOVIE, I think its much much better then in the series.

Apparently it certainly made enough money at the cinema and DVD sales, as far as i’m concernd most critics haven’t got a clue, and have now ruin’d any chance of us seeing this story to the end.

Shyamalan should have absolutely nothing to do with the Avatar: The Last Airbender ever again! It was not his idea to turn it into a movie, thousands of fans had that idea before him. It was his idea to turn it into an abismal insult to the original series in attempt to profit of the series’ success. He clearly was not a fan of the series because he stripped all it’s value in his adaptation. Everyone stop saying he should finish what he started! Paramount needs to find a new director and do it right, starting with Book 1! If Shyamalan has anything to do with the remake, I will be boycotting the film. We need a director who understands character development, can reach an adult and child audience, and ultimately is intelligent enough to see the vision and wisdom in the series. My vote is Andrew Stanton (Wall•E, John Carter).

The movie made 300 million because every fan of the show was dying to see it in 3D. i know i was. i’ve watched the series so many times over. Just because you went there and paid for your tickets to see it, doesn’t mean the movie was a success. it was terrible. i bet if refunds were allowed, Every true fan would have taken their money back. The effects were great but everything was doomed since the start. Terrible casting. None of the cast looked like the characters, maybe Aang but that kid didn’t know how to act. His acting was very dry. Shyamalan did not capture the true personality of the characters which i think is very important. There was no comical relief from Sokka. And my favorite Uncle Iroh, wasn’t a chubby old man who loved to eat and drink tea. I would like it to be remade but just not with Shyamalan as director. who cares if he doesn’t finish what he started. Let someone else make it a great movie.

I’m not kidding. Go to rotten tomatoes and see for yourself. It’s not just fans of the show that hate the movie, its a poorly done movie in general! I’ve never been so disgusted in my life. Do you know why he made it? His daughter wanted to be Katara for Halloween. He didn’t know anything about the show until then and was “inspired” to make a movie out of it. That would be cool if the movie was good, but instead, he insulted his daughter as well……I hope his daughter is annoyed too. And I actually liked The Village…

regardless of what “fans” say i have seen the entire series of the last airbender and personaly feel that the movie was a very good representation of the series. squeezing 15 hours of cartoon into a 2 hour movie is no small task. everything was done well, from the plot to the comedy and in between even the voices of the actors matched very well. a sequel should be made, not a revamp of the first. especially since we didn’t get to meet some of the best characters yet. i put fans in qoutes simply because i am a fan of the cartoon and any real fan can see the closeness of the two.

For all of you who have made the comments about the movie leaving out so many things from the cartoon should realize that Paramount Pictures, MGM, Universal, etc. are the ones who decide where the cuts are made on the editing floor. This movie most likely was chopped to pieces before sent to the theatres. Decisions had to be made in order to make this movie fit into a timely manner. I have been in the movie industry for over 20 years and have seen this over and over again with every movie. I recently worked on hunger games and the original cut was nearly 5 1/2 hours long. Please take that into consideration when you watch these films. A lot of people have put hard work and their heart and soul into making them.
