Korra Roundtable Podcast – Book 1 Air In Review
The Korra Roundtable returns as Morgan (Airspeed Prime), Callum (Badgermole1) and Kelly (Gemini530) revisit Book 1 of Korra and have a huge discussion on everything from individual episodes to specific characters and plot threads. We really get in depth on Book 1 Air. Some important news is covered at the beginning and a whole section on Book 2 speculation at the end. It is a long podcast, but one of the best that the Avatar Online Podcast has put out.

how can it be good writing….amon as a bender was a easy way to end season 1 and there was never no explanation on how they were able to learn bloodbend? And how was tenzin and his family even capture? was there a third airship? And korra getting her bending back is weak *oh mako i can’t love you and…… yay i am a god again.. i love you*
How can bloodbending remove bending? And how would energybending return bending taken by bloodbending when the greatest healer who know bloodbending can’t heal it?
She has no spirituality….she use the avatar state like a kid. *tears drop save everything*

You are aware that Amon and Noatak are Yukone’s Sons, so naturally there is a chance they will also develop his special bloodbending.
We mentioned at length how none of us were happy about the Tenzin Family issue.
You clearly did not listen to what we said about the final scenes.
I mentioned that the ending needed some more explanation, but it does not ruin the book as you can just assume that the bloodbending blocks chakras/chi paths which stops bending and Katara knows nothing about the psychic bloodbending or this new ability that Noatak developed during the time away after the end of the flashback.
No idea what your last point is about as that is what Book 2 is going to cover.

korra barely changed
mako become a jerk
bolin is 1 dimension

Korra had great character development as we discussed.
Why do you hate Mako and think he is a jerk ?
Bolin is in no way 1 dimensional and I will prove it with 2 scenes in the book. He is a fun guy as shown with his “date” with Korra and he learns to be a competent fighter as shown at the end of K112, 2 dimensions right there.
I do not know how you can say that Lin had great changes and that Korra barely changed while blatantly avoiding Bolin’s development…..
I agree on Asami, but again your character analysis is so inconsistent.

I am so for Bolin, he is awesome. I will say he seemed out of place in the season but we don’t know about his mentioned arc in book two.

I don’t think Korra has fully developed yet as a character. Nor have the other characters. I think in Book 2 and onwards we will get a lot more development on each of the characters. We have three more Books left. There is still plenty of time for more character development.

yeah, i hope they add some episodes that focus only on character development, rather than just always contributing to the storyline like the first book.

the problem is there a small amount of episode so there is no time for character develoment *my fears*
Airspeed Prime Reply:December 4th, 2012 at 5:26 am
I don’t think Korra needs to do episodes like that, look at K104 that is an excellent character focus on Korra while also being an important plot episode for Amon.
Same with Lin in K106 and Asami in K107 both have good development while the plot happens.
Book 1 in ATLA is where most of the character development with little plot episodes happen and it does affect the quality of Book 1 as a whole. Hence why I mentioned on the podcast how I feel Book 1 of Korra is a better opening book to a show than ATLA.
@momo2009
We know that they have a lot of development planned (Bolin’s finding his way arc, Korra respecting her power and spirituality, Asami being the head of Future Industries, Mako being a policeman now and the relationship development and all the SWT stuff planned) and we know from Book 2, 3 of ATLA and Korra Book 1 that they can have great character development while also having excellent story progression.
Book 1 of ATLA with 8 more episodes did not develop many of the characters as much as Korra did with only 12. Yes we got to know them better with those 8 extra episodes. We still have 40 episodes to come to better know them and see so much development.
Joey Reply:December 4th, 2012 at 7:04 pm
you’re right, they kind of weaved the character building aspect and the plotline progression into each episode. i guess i just want more episodes.
So if the avatar is the only one who can defeat the spirit…what does everyone else do? go eat a hotdog?

We based our speculation on what was known, for all we know the other characters will never even have to fight a spirit and it may be a solo journey for Korra while the others do something else.

I imagine Team Avatar will have their own problems to handle in Republic city.

We only got 2 posts about Book 1 in the thread so we didn’t think there was enough content to discuss to warrant it’s own section on the podcast.
