Let’s get this out of the way. I like Avatar.
All those blue people with their clean white clothes, singing and dancing throughout the day. Makes me happy inside. Oh wait. Wrong Avatar. And… wrong show anyway.
I came to Avatar by accident. I don’t own cable. I’d never heard of it aside from inside the covers of my LEGO magazine. Sets were too expensive and looked goofy so… Anyway, I watch folks houses and animals around here and most of these people have cable. I was flipping through Cartoon Network after marathoning the first season of Heroes in one day (it was a good show back then, if unnecessarily gory imo). I was exhausted, of course. Decided to see if Johnny Bravo was on (yeah, haven’t watched CN in years). I came in right in the “Previously, on Avatah…” part. Something about the moon granting power, something about a princess, fire nation attacking. I sat through the last two episode of season 1 and wondered if I would be able to watch more while house-sitting. I was in luck. Guide said they were playing several more, and different, that’s important to me, episodes throughout the next two days.
It was fun. I went home, didn’t think of it again, it was a neat show.
2008 came along. House sitting again. Boy was I in for it. This time I was making progress with my next NaNoWriMo novel after watching Hercules. Decided it was time for superheroes with Titans. Then Avatar came on. I stopped typing. Bloodbending. Toph. Ba Sing Se attacked by a giant drill. Wow. And of course, they were just hyping the Phoenix saga (nah, not X-Men) which I was totally bummed about missing. Heh, so I went to the library and watched the whole show online. I’ll reserve my thoughts on the show as a whole for an article but, I loved it. It inspired me to write a good book and I published. A book… But I’ll keep trying. Because somewhere out there, Mike and Brian are thinking up a new series. And they published. In a big way. So I’ll keep striving forward.
Thanks for the forum, Jordan. Good to meet all you fans.
