    On DeviantArt a really good/great artist I follow <a href="http://vashperado.deviantart.com/"vashperado posted a journal titled The Last Airhater I had an idea what it might be about but it turns out i was wrong in my guess and it was about how he was first against the show for various reasons and now is addicted to it.

    I was wondering if anyone else here had a similar story of either dislike or just true hate of the show before they watched it?

    @greg2b I started off watching it as a cartoon that I really liked. I put cartoons into sections in my mind, and if I like it, I’ll continue to watch it. As I grew up, I started to realise just how awesome this cartoon actually is. It then cascaded from the cartoon that I really like, to one of my main hobbies and family entertainment.

    I guess the Avatar world having asian influences helped.

    The Last Airhater article really puts the point across.
    Don’t judge a book by it’s cover.

    @greg2b Your first link doesn’t work.

    Another reason why people may initially dislike Avatar could be because they think it’s just another silly cartoon, and they’re too mature to watch that kind of stuff. I started watching it whilst young, so had a more open mind, and naturally enjoyed cartoons. If I had started at a slightly older age, I may find myself dubious and not enjoy it as much, or I could still enjoy it. Who knows?

    The only reason I can see for people not wanting to watch the show are
    1/ It is a Nick Show
    2/ Cartoon, A Nick Cartoon
    3/ On the outset with a young cast it looks quite kiddy.

    Which is when you show them this video and immediately once it ends hand them the 3 box sets.

    @airspeed It is a very nice trailer, but it has one major flaw. It shows parts of the ending and some very big spoilers.
    A trailer needs to be able to capture the viewer and make them hooked for more, which this does well. But is also needs to leave out the major twists and not spoil the show. If you see many of the movie trailers, or even the ALOK mini-spoilers for every episode, they all feature only clips that are near the start.

    But you only know that they are spoilers because you have seen the show. Someone seeing this before they have seen the show would not know that some parts are spoilers.

    You can say any trailer spoils parts of whatever it is a trailer for. Though that is sort of the point of a trailer to make someone want to watch something.

    @midnight0094 I did a similar thing when I started watching the show as well as I do with many cartoons I watch initially

    This link should work though you can get to it from the journal
    Vashperado

    @airspeed that is a good trailer, It is a bit long for a trailer though which may be why the spoilers seem to be more apparent, at least from the view of already seeing the series.

    @airspeed True, but take season 3 trailer for example. It only shows the first few episodes of season 3, and then only various clips. Just with only those few clips, it manages to hook the audience. When the viewer does then watch the first few episodes, it’ll have realised that it has seen everything in the trailer, and it now hungry for more. Thus, will finish watching season 3 and being completely surprised with the outcome, since they don’t know anything further than the first few episodes.

    If someone watched the trailer above, they would have thought it was an epic cartoon, and would be completely hooked. By the end of book 1, they would have a rough idea of what’s coming in book 2, and similarly by the end of book 2, they’ll know a few things of what’s in book 3. It doesn’t spoil the entire show, since it shows the clips fast, and without dialogue. But it gives the viewer an idea of what to expect, and that ruins the suspense, and surprise.

    @airspeed Yes, this is absolutely correct. But the scenes that the trailer spoils mustn’t include scenes near the end of what the trailer is for.

    @greg2b
    To be fair it is a trailer to 61 episodes (1342 minutes) of a show and not a 2 hour movie, so a 3 minute trailer is not that bad.

    @midnight0094
    I doubt anyone who sees this trailer and then decides to watch the show would look back at the trailer or remember details from it after the first 2-3 episodes.

    I went to see Spider-Man 2 days ago, I saw the trailers before hand, a few minutes into the movie I was just focused on what was happening. I did not think once about “Wait the trailer spoiled this for me”

    Also there is no context to many of the scenes in the trailer, the cuts are quick, only tiny amounts of dialogue.

    That said I do not care at all about being spoiled as IMO until you see something as it happens (Ie actually watching it) you do not have all the context to the scene nor the music or dialogue. So that may explain why I do not see the trailer as spoiler-ish.

    I guess we are getting slightly off topic.

    With this show it is difficult to actually find someone who has seen it and given it a chance who does not like it. Beyond the type of person who watches it just to say, Everyone likes it, but I am not everyone so I hate it, lol

    I agree, but it could have done with more longer clips (longer than 2 seconds, since that’s what all the action clips in this trailer are like), and more actual dialogue that capture the atmosphere and feel of the Avatar world.
    Instead of just showing nearly every action scene and character imaginable, it even had Huu… O.o
