Dark Horse December Solicits reveal Aang Statue Date and Price

Listed as: Avatar Comics

Dark Horse December solicitations are out and you can see them here

It has 2 Avatar items on it. First is The Rift Hardcover Edition which we have heard about before. As usual it is out February 11th 2015.

The main thing of note is that we at last get the price and release date for the Aang Statue shown off at SDCC this year. It will be out January 28th 2015 and the price is 149.99 US Dollars.

The Product description just describes the various features of the statue

In Legend of Korra, an enormous metal statue is located on a small island off the shores of Republic City. It depicts a teenage Aang dressed in traditional Air Nomad attire. In the figure’s left hand is a staff featuring the airbending symbol on its upper end. The figure’s left foot rests on a slightly higher surface in the form of a lotus flower. The pedestal on which its other foot stands is octagonal in shape, with upturned tips at each vertex surrounded by railings.

Dark Horse Deluxe, in coordination with Nickelodeon and the Avatar and Korra creators, has exactingly reproduced this piece as a hand-painted limited-edition collectable. Edition size TBD at press time.

I am pretty sure edition size is either the actual dimensions of the statue or how many will be made.

As for my thoughts, 150 is about what I expected, some statues are cheaper and some are more expensive, it seems extremely detailed and well sculpted so worth the money if this is your type of thing. I really doubt I will be getting this just because it is a lot of money and apart from looking nice does nothing. I wish Dark Horse would be more open about what they are and are not releasing with this merch line, because if this is the only nice statue they are releasing then I would perhaps be more interested, but with this line hinting at figures and other stuff that would interest me more I don’t want to be left unable to get them just because I bought this statue before they were announced.

I agree, it is a little too expensive to buy immediately. We have comics, blurays, art books and other stuff and that’s where my money is going. Still, a $40 posable figure is something I would buy for sure.

I could possibly get this one, if I can find someone online who will ship it for a reasonable price. Although, as you pointed out, it would be great to know what’s going to be released in future to be able to buy something I could appreciate more – should it be in the works – rather then spend all my money on this.

Any idea when and where it will be available online? I can’t find it on Amazon or even the Dark Horse site itself.

I’ve also found the solicit on Comic Book Resources, which gives a bit more detail on the dimensions of the statue too. Strangely enough, the release date is listed as 18 December

Amazon will probably have it up at some stage. ThingsFromAnotherWorld will have it for order also.
It has just been officially announced, so it will take time for preorders to go live.
If you want to avoid shipping costs you could ask your local comic store to get it in for you, then you are just paying retail price.
