Name Confirmation – The Last Airbender Legend Of Korra
Airspeed Prime here to tell you about some new Korra information. This all comes from a person who works at Nick who agreed to answer Questions about Nick shows
http://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/pgrsc/iaman_executive_at_the_1_childrens_network/?sort=new
Now I personally found it extremely difficult to locate the important info in the comments, so I have picked out the important stuff for you here. Most of it is non answers and stuff that he cannot answer so there is little of interest.
Finally we have proper confirmation of the name of the show
Q: Also, while you’re here: Is the official title The Last Airbender: Legend of Korra or Avatar: Legend of Korra?
A: The Last Airbender : Legend of Korra. What you saw on the leak was international versioning.
So basically this from what I can tell means that the show will be called The Last Airbender: Legend Of Korra in USA and Avatar Legend Of Korra everywhere else. Which is ok I guess, we have a choice now, lol
Really that is the only Important thing that we have not heard about before, the rest is just him stating about how Nick and the shows staff are not happy with the leaks and are working and to stop them.
As you probably know the Staff here decided that we would not allow links to the leaks here, but that we would allow discussion on them.
The Administrator of the Winx Club forum that the leaks were coming from upon seeing this response has said that there will be no more leaks.
For those looking for a release date, the person here says we will find out soon which is what we have heard previously from Nick on Twitter. Hopefully soon.
Please tell us your thoughts on the Name confirmation in the comments below.

I really was hoping that they would stick to the name Avatar. But at least we are getting official news straight from Nickelodeon.

Well I would not give Nick any credit for this, as it was just one guy as opposed to an Official Nick thing.

I really don’t like The Last Airbender in the title, but I’m in England so it will be Avatar for me :^D

i don’t understand why they would not have the name the same for all countries. Avatar: Legend of Korra definitely sounds better.

Well, we have some precedent here, “Avatar: The Last Airbender” was called “Avatar: The Legend of Aang” outside USA, in my country it was “Avatar: La leyenda de Aang” (the translation to Spanish of the last).

If its not going to have Avatar in the title then they should drop The Last Airbender part and just call it “Legend Of Korra”

I really don’t think it needs the title “The Last Airbender” latched to it, especially when this is more about being the Avatar than the Airbenders. LOL
Thank you for the posted information, Airspeed. You keep on top of everything, if there is any information to be had, it’s nice to know that this is the place we can find it.
And it’s legal.

but it didn’t say Avatar just in the leaks it said it in a commercial on AMERICAN TV…it said AVATAR: THE LEGEND OF KORRA…so i choose to believe my tv over the internet where I’m hearing from one guy who heard from another guy who works at some place.

Airspeed Prime Reply:February 10th, 2012 at 3:28 am
Actually that was not a commercial and was never seen on tv and it was never meant to be even be online, it too was a leak. Also it was done in 2011 so the info is probably not up to date.
The guy even mentions the vid in the link I gave, plus he gave loads of proof that he does work for nick.
That and all the merchandise and the only OFFICIAL trailer that was at SDCC 2011 all said TLA LOK.
Leaks were international version of the show

I’m pretty sure I saw it on actual TV…like that’s where I saw it first and then I ran to the internet to spread my joy. Although then again I could just be melding memories haha. I just really do not understand why they HAVE to have the moniker like why can’t it JUST be “The Legend of Korra” it just sounds silly with TLA in the front.

You definitely did not see it on tv, as it is not a tv commercial. It is confirmed that NIck have not yet mentioned the show on their channel yet.
Thank goodness for some legit confirmation! I think the name is different in the USA because of James Cameron’s movie, Avatar. :\

Thanks for the heads up, Airspeed!! You’re always on top of the ATLA game.

This sucks.

Just use the international name, that is what it will be called in Europe

Atry Reply:February 10th, 2012 at 3:47 am
Still, USA is the country of origin. So everything will be referred back to it, it’s the official name.
And haven’t you considered what effect this might have on future Avatar releases? Nothing will ever be allowed to call itself Avatar even though it called itself that even before James Cameron stole it. The very name of our favorite franchise has been lost, it’s useless now to even call ourselves “Avatar fans”.

Yes, but like we can call the original show Avatar: The Legend Of Aang, we have a choice here. I agree that it is very disappointing, but it seems like the naming issue is only regarding Korra stuff.
The Promise has Avatar in the title, who knows if they still have the rights to the original shows name.
I think everyone is just going to use ALOK, because technically it will the wider spread name.
That and it is only the shows name, and we know Nick waned the show to be called ALOK, they just legally cannot in USA.
Atry Reply:February 10th, 2012 at 4:26 am
If the show is not given it’s rightful name, I’m not going to watch it.
Airspeed Prime Reply:February 10th, 2012 at 4:43 am
Good luck with that, major props if you can keep with that, at least in Sweden the name in english will be the “Correct”name.
Atry Reply:February 10th, 2012 at 8:54 am
Why should I watch the show I have to be constantly needled by the fact that it’s title doesn’t make any sense.
Like I’m going to watch it here in Sweden either, here it’ll just be a stupid dub.
Nickelodeon sucks, they can’t give us any information and then they can’t even give us a proper name. They don’t deserve any of this, they’re idiotic failures all of them.
And quit with that sarcastic attitude, I want an argument and I want it now!
Airspeed Prime Reply:February 10th, 2012 at 9:43 am
What makes you think I was being sarcastic, I was serious, good on you if you are willing to not watch the show out of protest
That said I don’t think there will be too many people doing the same thing.
Everyone is disappointed probably most of all Mike and Bryan and Nick, they would have wanted to keep Avatar in the title to get an even better link to ATLA.
Atry Reply:February 10th, 2012 at 10:20 am
Yes but are they even trying? Why do they just seem to give up when they should be fighting down to their last breath to keep the rights to the title?
Airspeed Prime Reply:February 10th, 2012 at 10:34 am
As far as I know they have (had) been trying hard to keep the name, I believe I posted about this in the Korra news thread a month or two ago about the copyright stuff. They had the trademarks for ALOK rejected, then the reapplied and it was up for consideration and they looked like they were going to get it and I think this happened 2-3 times, so it is clear that pretty much no matter what they do they cannot get ALOK for everywhere, With Avatar 2 and I think 3 confirmed the trademarks will be lasting a while.
The problem I believe is that James Camerons Avatar has the rights for merchandise as it had a toyline and stuff.
Hopefully Toy Fair can shed some light on things *assuming Korra has a toyline*
Atry Reply:February 10th, 2012 at 11:24 am
It’s just so frustrating that once I finally got used to the show being called TLA:LOK the leaks came out and flared up the fanbase to believe it was still called A:LOK. So now I have to start all over again, what a pisser.
But I will admit I’m glad there’s at least the international name along with the American name. With the original show I preferred the American name since I thought it sounded more poetic, I guess it’ll just have to be the other way around in this case.
But I’m still a bit confused how this will affect future Avatar releases. Will they ever be able to reclaim the title for another trademark, if not then how will that affect their choice of title? This also comes further into question as James Cameron has confirmed that the sequels to his Avatar film won’t share the same name (if there will be any sequels that is).
Airspeed Prime Reply:February 10th, 2012 at 11:41 am
I agree, Nick should have come out and put out something official to stop the leaks and give us the official name.
As for Future Avatar stuff, I am assuming that anything that is specifically Avatar: The Last Airbender can use it, like the promise is a direct continuation, the art book is specific to that.
But since Korra is a new show, it needs a new copyright and cannot now use Avatar, which brings up how did James Cameron or ATLA get Avatar in the first place (whichever came first).
I am pretty sure that once James Cameron keeps renewing his use of Avatar that the real Avatar cannot use it except for things that are ATLA related.
So for example, say Korra gets a toyline, the Korra specific toys would have to use TLA LOK in America but if there is a classic’s ATLA line too that could use ATLA on it’s packaging.
That said I could be completely wrong and that they can only use Avatar on books.

I WANT PERFECTION, NO EXCEPTIONS !!!

Airspeed Prime Reply:February 10th, 2012 at 4:02 am
James Cameron has ruined it for us with his blue people movie that would have been better called Pandora.
That said I think this is going to be one of those things that absolutely NO ONE will actually ever call the show The Last Airbender Legend Of Korra.
Tracy Reply:February 10th, 2012 at 5:18 pm
If you’re looking for perfection, you’re never going to find it. No one is perfect.
I’m not really that peeved about it. Sure, Avatar: Legend of Korra sounds better, but really, who cares. It’s not about the title, it’s about the storyline.

Kelly Reply:February 14th, 2012 at 7:05 am
Thank you for having the same opinion as me! I’m not preeved either, but I do kinda care if the show had the proper name. But like you said its the show not the title
