Civil Wars Part 1 preview clip

We got a short clip of this episode after the premiere last week, but now we have our first full preview clip from Nickelodeon.

Tenzin and Rohan

Check it out here

A really good scene between Tenzin and his siblings, things are certainly going to get interesting between the kataang kids, Kya and Bumi seem to have been left out of a lot of things while growing up. Could we possibly get a flashback or two, either way it makes for good character moments.

The only issue I am having is that, did Aang really focus more on Tenzin and leave Kya and Bumi out.
I think there is much more of a story to come out about it and there could be a reason for Tenzin getting a few solo trips.

I think they could play on the fact that Tenzin just by being the hope of the future of the Air Nomads had so much pressure on him that Aang felt that he needed to give Tenzin some time alone with him to perhaps talk to him about how he felt when he was the Last Airbender.
Maybe Kya and Bumi feel left out, but do not quite understand how much hope and pressure Tenzin and Katara and Aang were under to be the future of the Air Nomads.

If they give this time it could be amazing.

I think you’re into something with that Airspeed. Tenzin wasn’t just Aang’s son, they would also have a special mentor-student, airbender-airbender relationship. It would be necessary for Aang to dedicate time to teach Tenzin the way of the airnomads – he was his heir, the new ‘last airbender’.

Also, as the first episode kind of indicated, even if Aang didn’t mean to play favorites, the world probably did. Kya and Bumi were most likely vastly overlooked after Tenzin was discovered to be an airbender, and therefore felt underappreciated. In that light, Aang and Tenzin’s ‘vacations’ would look like more favoritism, even if it wasn’t.

Oh wow! In my thoughts on the Episode 2 forum last week, I commented about Tenzin possibly receiving more of Aang’s attention growing up. Unfortunately I may have been on the right track with that thinking.

I agree that there definitely is a story behind this. If not, I’ll be really disappointed in Aang if he showed favoritism like that. Really looking forward to Friday’s episode.

The big question would be did Tenzin need that extra attention, from the moment he was born he must have been hailed as the saviour of the Air Nomads and perhaps needed these solo trips with his father who himself dealt with similar issues being the last airbender for so long.
A necessary evil so to speak. As much as he loved all of his kids, Tenzin as the only other airbender had to have been crazy important for the world and balance.
I feel many heart to heart family reminiscing moments are coming up.

i agree with you i mean Aang has ever showed favoritism with anything or anyone else so y would he do it with his kids it just doesn’t make sense but if it is true i will be REALLY disappointed in Aang

There were some nice continuityreferences, and it is interesting that kya and bumi did not go on the vacations.

The way he reacted to realizing that his siblings weren’t there on the trip, makes me thing he released that he never really spent a lot of time with kya and bumi. That’s why katara wanted Tenzin to bring them a long with him. To another point will tenzin take them to the places where aang took him? Just a thought.

    Nico Robin Reply:

that is an interesting point I would like it if tenzin took them to all the places aang took him to.

I really hope this is just a vague statement, i really hate to think that Aang and Tenzin just left Katara, Kya, and Bumi alone to go on just Airbender Only vacations. Just like Aang was the last hope for the Airbender Nation, Tenzin got all that responsibility on his back.. and I think Aang wanted to spare him the harsh grief he had to think about, and tried to show just him the special and fun times, In the same sense it would seem reasonable if Kya got more attention from Katara than Aang, but i absolutley DO NOT see Aang and Katara actually giving more love and devotion to any specific child. Thats not who Aang and Katara are.

i agree i mean they are the most loving and (Aang especially) unbiused people in the show

That is soooo not like aang would be on purpose at least.

I’m not sure…it’s surprising and also not surprising, I can imagine Aang get quite excited to have a child being an airbender, the only airbenders in the world and also there is that endearing flaw of Aang, that when he gets excited or “busy when having fun” and forgets all the rest (like in Kioshi Island episode, North Pole in episode 18 (when met sifu Paku) and 19(at start of the episode), etc), the father when sees one of his children who could invest everything he knows, specially in Aang and Tenzin’s case, I’m pretty sure Aang didn’t do it on purpose.
even the most loving family have some problems and this problem is not rare, actually sometimes is quite common.
Since in Book 2, family is one of the main themes, even in Avatar The Last Airbender, family themes was quite explored (such Sokka and Katara and their parents, Toph and her parents, Fire Nation royal family).

    Water-Tribe Heart Reply:

absolutley agree families do have flaws and thats what makes everyone human, i was just saying in the way of Aang or katara singling out one of their children doesnt seem right. but i do agree on Aang maybe giving Tenzin a little more quality time because of the fact that him and aang shared that bond, and it was attention and time that Aang needed to give tenzin in order for tenzin to want to carry out the HUGE responsibility of creating the future generation of Airbenders.

    worldstraveller Reply:

yeah, we just can’t help but feel sorry for them, but part of it makes it more enjoyable, the story would be boring if was a happy-go-lucky, it’s a very human animated series, that’s part of the beauty of it of a very good story that I always appreciate.

i agree w/ u about the fact that the creators never make a character seem like they r perfect. i mean that’s what make the show so real and relateable.
