Avatar Rewatch Awards
Hello Avatar fans, Airspeed Prime here with the results of the Avatar Rewatch Awards. To give the backstory on this, a few weeks ago we finished the sites big rewatch of the show. So I came up with the idea to do a series of awards, every day I posted an award on the site and on our Facebook page and people voted. Now they are all finished so it is time to finally give the results.
To work out the winners and runner ups I just added up the number of votes each thing got, if there was a tie I tried to break it with Facebook likes but even after that there were still some ties.

I originally just had words and no pictures, and then just decided I have to make this look good and put some effort in, it took a while to put all the pictures in but it was worth it.

Now we can all put this rewatch to rest, it is finished.

*Ducks head* Well what can I say, Zuko is flamey-o.
I think you put this together really well!

I didn’t realize people disliked The Puppetmaster so much. Obviously The Great Divide is the worst, but I wouldn’t have pegged The Puppetmaster as second-worst.
It had one of the funniest moments of the show for me – “And they knew the blade of Wing – Fun was haunted! Aaaaaaah-aaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh…”
I probably would have said The Painted Lady or another one of the filler episodes from Book 1 was second-worst.
Anyways, everything else is good. Definitely agree with most of the stuff. I lol’d at Ty Lee winning most attractive female.

Well apart from The Great Divide it is very hard to find another episode that is much lower quality than the rest. Shows the overall quality of the show that only one episode stands out as not as high quality.
The Painted Lady is not filler as it gives more Katara character development, it shows her amazing compassion even if it is not the best thing for the group.
I have said this loads of times but there is no Filler in Avatar, any episode that is light on plot is good character development or world building, even The Great Divide shows Aang taking on his role as the Avatar for the first time and resolving peoples problems.

Dom Reply:July 25th, 2011 at 6:08 pm
As much as I want to agree… I do believe the Great Divide is the one true ‘filler’ episode of the series. I wasn’t really a fan of the childish bickering between the two tribes, as well as the stale “fairy tale-esque” moral that was left after watching. And plot-wise not much happened..
Although Painted Lady isn’t my favorite episode, I still enjoyed it over the Great Divide.
And I thought the Puppet Master was really well done haha! Just wanted to share my opinion!

It may just be that my definition of filler is harder to fulfil. For me it is filler if there is nothing to advance anything in the show at all plot or character development.
The Great Divide was Aang’s first time stepping fully into his role as the Avatar and solving peoples problems, he realised that their fighting was more childish bickering than an actually hatred, so what better way to solve their problems with that made up story.
The canyon Guide also give Aang some advice, “It is not easy being impartial” (paraphrase). Which is definitely true for the Avatar, he couldn’t take sides, he had to be fair.
I am in a huge minority here, even the creators didn’t like it as much, it is very near the bottom on my top 61 episodes, but I would never skip this episode in a rewatch.
Why are firenation girls the hottest. No pun intended

okay so i agree with starbender. i loved On ji and she should’ve won best oneshot. also i disagree with the Runner up for best character music. it should have been the Flameos in the Headband. that was amazing music. & i actually liked the puppetmaster a lot. so the runner up could’ve been ..well there shouldn’t have even been a category for “WORST EPISODE” with avatar because every single episode was AMAZING and brought a lot to the story. & also, the funniest moment should have at least had one from Ember Island Players. that episode was so funny. other than that, i agree with most of the other answers.
although if you were counting deaths that we didn’t see i would’ve put Lu Ten for the runner up. Or actually Avatar Roku’s death was really sad too. anyways, great job! i seriously loved this whole awards thing!

okay first off, i completely agree with Starbender! On Ji should’ve been best one shot and then Meng. On ji was a great character. i loved her! & the runner up for saddest death could have been Avatar Roku’s or if it was for a death we didn’t see but were affected by, it could have been Lu Ten. but i do agree Jet’s death was by far the saddest. oh & best music by a character runner up could have been the Flameos in the headband. their music was amazing.
oh and one of the funniest moments should have been one where zuko’s socially awkwardness comes into play. it’s hilarious. like on his date with Jin, or in Western air temple when he tries to convince the Gang that he’s actually good. or one in the ember island players. that ep was hilarious! but the one category i disagree with the most is the fact that puppetmaster was runner up. The episode that should have been runner up was..WELL actually there shouldn’t have even been a “WORST EPISODE” category. EVERY SINGLE EPISODE in avatar: tla was amazing! & each brought something great to the plot and characters. so there really aren’t any bad A:TLA eps IMO. but other than that, i agree with most other categories! & really enjoyed these awards. thank you for keeping ATLA alive. i love this show. although i still do feel that Ember Island Players should have won more moments.
and emotional scene runner up could be Lu ten and Iroh in Tales of Ba Sing se. but anyways GREAT JOB with the choices!

Admin / Jordash Reply:July 8th, 2011 at 3:33 pm
Yeah Lu Ten was definitely way sad.

Airspeed Prime Reply:July 8th, 2011 at 3:43 pm
Regarding the Worst Episode Category, When I actually asked for votes I specifically said “Worst Episode (In this case the episode that is not as good as the others)”
I fully agree that every episode is amazing, but everyone has a list of episodes and one has to be at the bottom.

i also believe one of the best fights was Aang&The BLUE SPIRIT(ZUKO) vs. Zhao and the Yun Yan Archers. that was an AMAZING fight scene and it was really epic to see Zuko & Aang beat those firebenders. also, i believe another really sad death was Katara’s mom. i would also really like to know more about the whole “KILLING OF THE AIRNOMADS” and if there are any left? i really hope some survived. but it was nice to know a little about them in the storm. plus some more on Koh would’ve been nice. those are some crazy unsolved mysteries.
anyways thanks for your time.

Yeah the Blue Spirit Episode was so freaking epic!

i also just love the epicness of whenever aang gets in the avatar state, then opens his eyes and theyre GLOWING, then he just says something with all those voices combined. i dunno. just makes me want to say “yeah, you GO Aang!!!!”
gosh i wish sokka were real. (=

Admin / Jordash Reply:July 11th, 2011 at 9:07 pm
Yeah the Avatar State is awesome!
The Puppetmaster didn’t deserve to be runner-up worst

Dante Basco should have gotten runner up for voice actor! But I agree otherwise.

Yeah he did such a good job.

I agree with almost everything except that the western air temple is my all time favorite setting in the series. That, and I personally find Ty-Lee to be one of the most unattractive female in the show.

This was such a cool idea!!
Im about 50/50 with agreeing and disagreeing.
I actually liked the replacement voice for Iroh better than the original.. So I feel like he should have won
and runner up should have been Sokka. His voice actor is very eccentric. I can imagine it strained his voice a lot to talk so over-the-top all the time. I love Zuko’s voice too but.. he would be third for me if there was a third.

Really you prefer Greg Baldwin to Mako (RIP) , that is the first time I have ever heard that. I am interested to know why ?
Mainly because for me anyway, Mako was Iroh it was his voice acting that made Iroh so amazing, so the change in voice while a decent replacement was very obvious.
I agree that Jack Desena was amazing.

I actually didn’t even know the voice actor was different until after I watched the series and I read it somewhere so when I re-watched the series I kept my ears open and noticed a bit of a difference aaand I just felt the third season voice was better. I don’t think the personality of Iroh changed one bit. Like I said, I didnt even notice at first so.. It was totally 100% just about what voice I liked better.
Also Jin should have been one of the best one- shot characters. She only appeared once right? I mean the characters that won deserved it. I just liked Jin better.

I still don’t get why Zuko redirecting Ozai’s lightening won the award for best Firebending.
It’s more a trick than it is a power. The other winners won because it was a display of incredible power whilst the Firebending winner was more like a strong character moment not a strong bending moment.
That scene was just a cheering for Zuko, not his bending abilities. While you’re at it, why don’t you just proclaim Sokka as the best swordfighter in the whole series.

Airspeed Prime Reply:January 14th, 2012 at 10:35 am
Note it is Coolest Firebending not most powerful. I would agree that yes it winning probably was influenced by the amount of Zuko fans.
It was not my choice, but I don’t think it is a terrible choice.
Reply
Atry Reply:January 14th, 2012 at 12:28 pm
The most powerful Firebending would be Aang’s Firebending in Sozin’s Comet Part 4, it was powered not only by the comet but also the full force of the Avatar State.
But it’s not that difficult telling a cool character moment from a cool bending moment. They did so with the first three, I mean even his fire-whips were cooler than that.
Reply
Tracy Reply:January 14th, 2012 at 12:35 pm
Some of the coolest firebending was done by Zuko. Re-directing lightning is a big deal. I thought it was cool when Iroh first did it in The Storm.
Reply
Atry Reply:January 14th, 2012 at 3:25 pm
To actually generate lightening is much cooler than to just re-direct it.
Why, cause Zuko could do one but he couldn’t do the other because it’s an ultimate power that only a select few Firebenders can master. Now that’s badass.
Airspeed Prime Reply:January 14th, 2012 at 3:32 pm
I believe I choose Iroh’s epic charged Fire Blast that took down the wall of Ba Sing Se as my coolest piece of Firebending.
That one had power, a great setting comet assisted, and given how massive we know those walls are from the Ba Sing Se story arcs we get a full extent of the power there, the Drill took its time getting through the wall yet Iroh took it down with one blast.
Though Ozai’s burning earth stream of Fire, and Zuko’s trademark breakdance flare of fire are also cool.
Just because it was re-directed doesn’t make it any less awesome. I think it’s more to do with the fact that he re-directed it at his father. That’s what made it so amazing.
I also loved the Firebending in the Agni Kais. Awww heck, I loved it all.

I agree with almost everything except both scenes for Most Emotional Scene. I think The scene where Uncle Iroh sings to his dead son in “Tales of Bah Sing Se” or when Katara talks to her dad in “The Awakening” should have won runner up. But The most emotional scene for me was when Zuko finds Iroh and apologizes to him. It’s the last think Zuko has to do before he’s a genuine good guy. Their relationship is the most developed making it the best in the series. I can’t help but cry every time I see it. That scene should have won hands down!
