Avatar Online Podcast Episode 178 – November 26th 2017

Morgan is joined by Harrison to review K312 Enter the Void. We also discuss the latest on the Zen Monkey Studios pins and answer a listener question.

Note/ This podcast has some audio issues as a result of skype/internet issues. I did my best in editing to fix things, but there was no way to fully edit around certain lost audio and the gaps between skyps disconnects.

Next week we will review K410 Operation Beifong

Oh yeah, definitely a great episode. I agree the kind of surprising level of violence of P’Li’s death did give it quite a bit of impact, but also agree that we as the audience might have gotten more out of it if we had had more of P’Li’s backstory, maybe with a few flashbacks. The one line that basically summed up her entire life history didn’t feel like enough for us to really be emotionally connected to her.

I was a little happy to hear I wasn’t the only one who suspected Suyin might be working with the Red Lotus, or at least wasn’t as much of their ally as she seemed. (I think my thinking came mainly from a particular scene in an earlier episode—When they discover that Aiwei, who up to that point had been Suyin’s right hand man, was a traitor, I sort of remember this particular look on her face, a sort of quick darting of her eyes that the show seemed to draw attention to, which would normally be taken as something suspicious in the context of a show like this. I think it was something like that, if I’m remembering right. Then of course the fact that she helps Korra leave, when Lin is trying to keep her safe from the Red Lotus.) Suyin’s actions, particularly in this episode, of course eventually prove her real loyalties. (I guess maybe they might not have wanted to go down the route of making any of the kids of the core ATLA cast into the bad guys, and with Toph coming into the picture later, it’s kind of a relief that Suyin wasn’t on the wrong side.)

Looking forward to the next episode, definitely my favorite of the Korra series. :J
